With a custody account at Liechtensteinische Landesbank AG, your taxes are NOT automatically paid for you when profits are realized or when interest and dividends are paid (except withholding taxes and stamp taxes). About Estably

Estably is a digital asset management company (also known as a “robo-advisor”) from the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Many investors lack the time and expertise to deal with the financial markets. Asset managers offer these investors the service of looking after their assets.

In contrast to investment advisors, asset managers not only provide information about products and give recommendations for shares and funds, but also actively trade on the markets in the interest of their clients.

Asset managers, like banks, are subject to legal supervision and require a license to offer their services.

In Liechtenstein, asset managers are supervised and continuously monitored by the Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein (FMA).

Robo-advisors are digital financial investments that use technology and algorithms to manage and, ideally, increase assets.

Find out more in this article.

While classic Robo-advisors usually invest passively in ETFs or funds, we try to achieve an above-average return by carefully selecting individual stocks. In doing so, we are the only provider to rely on the value investing strategy that investment legend Warren Buffett, among others, swears by.

As the only Robo-advisor in the Principality of Liechtenstein, you also benefit from the excellent framework conditions of one of the most sought-after financial locations in the world.

Through the use of modern technology, investing money via robo-advisors is uncomplicated and mostly transparent. You no longer have to go to the nearest bank or asset manager, but can open your own custody account from almost anywhere.

Due to the scalability of the digital business model, the fees of Robo-advisors are usually much lower than those of traditional investments at a bank.

Account and custody account

Your account and custody account are held either at Baader Bank in Germany (www.baaderbank.de.) or at Liechtensteiner Landesbank (www.llb.li) in Liechtenstein. For the private pension solution, your custodian bank is St. Galler Kantonalbank (Switzerland).

In principle, any natural person or legal entity can become a customer of Estably, provided there is no US tax liability.

  • A stable internet connection
  • A webcam or the Identity.TM app for video identification
  • A valid photo ID
  • A certificate of registration (except for residence in Germany and Baader Bank custody account)
  • Your TIN (except for residence in Germany and Baader Bank custody account)

In principle, we only recommend transferring money, as otherwise we would have to sell all the securities currently held in the portfolio so that we can invest in accordance with our strategy.

Opening your custody account and account usually takes between 3 and 5 days.

You will receive two separate letters with your access data for the web portal.

Your investment amount is invested on a weekly basis.

We need a reference account from you to process deposits and withdrawals and to ensure the security of payment flows. All deposits and withdrawals are processed exclusively via your reference account and are therefore protected from access by third parties.

Yes, this is possible. Simply set up a standing order with your bank in favour of your account at Baader Bank or Liechtensteinische Landesbank.

Yes, this is possible in principle. Please contact us for more information on the exact procedure (depending on the custodian bank).

Yes. You can find information about this here.

Yes, corporate custody accounts are possible from a minimum investment amount of €100,000.

We require the following documents for opening a custody account:

Current extract from the commercial register (not older than 6 months),
LEI and TIN (tax identification number) of your company, as well as
Shareholders’ agreement or a document showing that you are the beneficial owner.

You can find more information here.

The German client can only deposit an exemption order with a German bank. This is because the exemption order relates to the direct payment of income tax on investment income (final withholding tax), which only German banks are obliged to do.

With the exemption order, the client can ensure that the German bank only pays a final withholding tax if the investment income incurred exceeds the exemption amount on investment income (“saver’s lump sum of currently EUR 1,000 (single assessment) / EUR 2,000 (joint assessment of spouses)).

If you have a custody account at Baader Bank, you can submit your exemption order to the bank using the following form: Download Freistellungsauftrag Baader Bank.

As a foreign bank (from Germany’s point of view), the LLB is not subject to the obligation to pay the final withholding tax. The investment income earned on a foreign custody account must therefore be declared by the client herself as part of her income tax return. In the context of the tax return, the “saver’s lump sum” is then taken into account ex officio, insofar as it has not already been exhausted by an exemption order with a German bank.

Investment strategy

We invest your assets according to Value Investing Principles.

Depending on the investment strategy, we invest your assets in the following asset classes:

Modern Value:  Individual shares and bond funds

Value Green:  Individual shares and bond ETFs

Best of Funds:  Individual shares, equity, and bond funds

Asset Protect:  Physical gold and foreign currencies

Dividends and interest payments are credited to your clearing account. If an amount has accumulated in the account that is worth investing, we use the money to buy securities into your custody account.

You can switch between the investment strategies offered. If you are interested in changing your strategy, please send us an e-mail at [email protected] or call us at +423 220 29 70.

The concept of the “safety margin” within the framework of our value investing strategy provides that each share in your portfolio has a sufficient safety cushion.

This cushion is created by the difference between the share price and the actual value of the company. The more undervalued a company is according to our analyses, the more likely it is to weaken (for example in times of crisis) in order to still be profitable.

In addition, we invest primarily in companies that have already proven in the past that they can survive crises unscathed or that have sufficient liquidity to master a future one.

Yes. With our Value Green strategy, you invest in high-quality companies that meet high sustainability standards in addition to our strict value investing criteria.

Security and data protection

Our client’s funds are held in safe custody by our custodian banks (Baader Bank or Liechtensteinische Landesbank). Both banks are affiliated to deposit protection institutions, which means: The securities in your custody account are kept as special assets completely separate from the rest of the bank’s assets and are not affected in the event of the bank’s insolvency. You can simply have them transferred to another bank of your choice in the event of insolvency. Your account balance is protected up to an amount of EUR 100,000 or CHF 100,000 in the event of insolvency.

Data protection is a matter of trust and your trust is important to us. When processing your personal data, we strictly observe the legal regulations. We use state-of-the-art IT infrastructure to ensure the security of your data. Your data is always stored in encrypted form.

Costs and taxes

Your costs depend on the chosen strategy and custodian bank. More detailed information is available on the respective strategy pages:

No. Estably is an independent asset manager and receives no benefits from any company.

Baader Bank: No. Dissolution is possible at any time and without additional fees.

Liechtensteinische Landesbank: When balancing a custody account, fees in the amount of CHF 100 are incurred.

You will receive a cost statement from us once a year. This shows all the costs you have paid. You also have access to the bank statements via your mailbox, on which you can see the bookings.

Clients subject to tax in Germany receive an annual tax certificate. Clients outside Germany receive a statement of income for the respective previous calendar year.

A credit card with the LLB costs CHF 200 per year. Alternatively, the LLB account can be opened as a direct debit account via another credit card provider.

We explain the performance fee according to the High Water Mark principle here and in this video.

Deposits and withdrawals

The initial investment amount will either be collected by us at Baader Bank by direct debit or transferred by you directly to your new account (partial transfers are also possible over several days).

If you opt for a custody account with Liechtensteinische Landesbank, you can only transfer the amount to the new account yourself. You can make further deposits to your account by bank transfer at any time. You will find the IBAN and BIC of your account in the Estably Online Portal under “Deposits”.

Payments are made by bank transfer. To do so, simply send us an e-mail (in the case of the Baader Bank custodian bank) or a transfer order (in the case of the LLB custodian bank). Transfers can only be made to the reference account you have deposited.

You can terminate the asset management contract at any time without notice. To do so, please send us a signed letter of termination. You are also welcome to scan it and email it to us at [email protected]. The securities will then be sold and the amount released will be transferred to your reference account.

Liechtenstein as a financial centre

No! Liechtenstein is no longer the tax haven of yesteryear. The financial market is strictly regulated by the Financial Market Authority.

As a safe haven in the heart of Europe, the Principality of Liechtenstein is predestined for asset management. The economic and political stability make the location highly attractive for sophisticated investors. In Liechtenstein, asset management has a very long tradition and has been conducted extremely professionally for many decades.

Standard & Poors regularly awards the country a triple-A (AAA) rating. Liechtenstein is not a member of the EU but is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and has a customs and currency union with Switzerland. The official currency is the Swiss franc.
